Do you remember what exactly that inspired you to
get into photography?
I like capturing images on photo. As a TV jouranlist, I work
in a medium that's very visual but I find something magical in
capturing a moment in still. It freezes the moment.
When did you first pick up a camera and start exploring the
medium? Please describe some of your earliest photographs.
I can't exactly say when I first picked up a camera but it would
have only been a point-and-shoot. The first time I held a good
camera, I took the photos of the Aetas in Zambales. Taking their
pictures and being able to adjust the look with a manual camera
was addicting.
What type of camera do you use to take most of your pictures?
How important is the role of the equipment used in capturing a
beautiful image?
I think a good camera helps because it gives you more room to
experiment with the photos but I think it's more important to
have an "eye" rather than having state-of-the-art equipment.
What are some of your favorite subjects?
I always like taking photos of people. Faces show so much character
and I like capturing them on film.
How do you capture a moment without altering it with your presence?
That's difficult but as much as possible I like taking candid
photos.
What are some of your memorable photos?
My favorite photos are the Aeta
photos. They were my very first good photos (I think).
Plus, it was so difficult to get to their barrio (Palis, Botolan,
Zambales).
What defines a good photograph?
Being able to show mundane things in a different way is the mark
of a good photograph.
What advice do you have for people who don't have an eye for
photography?
Practice ...practice ... practice. Try engaging the help of a
pro.
